Thank you for choosing Sapna Odlin Photography and Grace and Gravity for your woodland yoga photo-shoot! I am Yasmin Strong from Grace and Gravity. I’ll be working with Sapna from Sapna Odlin Photography to encapsulate your love for yoga in a set of stunning photographs for you to keep forever.

Yogi in the woods – Background

The mini Yogi shoot concept was conceived last year when Sapna and I worked together on a shoot to promote my Yoga business.
Inspired by Sapna’s work with families in the woods, I was keen to collaborate with her again and create some Yogi photographic magic in the beautiful English countryside.

Here is a handy document with tips to help you get the most out of your shoot and most importantly, maximise your enjoyment on the day.

Firstly, know you are in safe hands.

Sapna is friendly, approachable and will make you feel immediately at ease. Her photographic skills speak for themselves (please do have a look at her work if you haven’t done so already). Let the preparation begin…

It’s a great idea to experiment with various hair styles, make-up and costumes in advance of your shoot. This gives you a chance to ensure that your chosen hairstyle will last a day’s shooting and you can avoid any costume malfunctions! Choose clothes that are comfortable to wear for achieving the poses you would like to include in your shoot. If you desire that extra special look, maybe seek the guidance of a qualified hair and make-up artist.

Choosing poses for your shoot

To achieve that natural, free, relaxed and effortless yoga look for your shoot, its important to choose poses that you find simple to execute. If you’re uncomfortable in any way or feel unsafe in a pose, it may show on your face and blemish the final results. We recommend you write down any poses, ideas and notes to bring with you on the day; you’ll be so blissed out it’ll be easy to forget!

Find some inspiration online

Researching online using sites such as Pinterest, Instagram and Google Images is a great way to explore your ideas in similar environments and photographic styles, themes and concepts. Think of textures, colours, poses, props, themes and lighting. We usually have a small supply of fabrics and props that we bring along with us for you to choose from if inspiration is escaping you.

On the day

Arrive nice and early, with plenty of water and nourishing snacks. Bring make-up and hair accessories for any last minute touch ups. Bring your costumes, notes and some warm clothes for before and after your shoot. Whilst you’re in your 30-minute shoot, you’ll be holding postures for a little longer than usual and it can be challenge, so please make sure you warm up and cool down and practice any key poses. It’s an autumnal shoot, so beautiful colours will be guaranteed, however, the weather may not. Please do bear this in mind and account for any adverse weather conditions! Most importantly, enjoy the experience! All the fabulous people on shoot are in the same boat as you. It’s exciting and nerve-racking at the same time. Just remember, we’re all joining together to create some amazing, beautiful art.

Post photo-shoot

Finish off your incredible day with a hot bath or shower and some soft stretching to rejuvenate your body. Perhaps add some Epsom salts to your bath, treat yourself to a healthy and nourishing meal and prepare for a restorative night’s sleep.

Then begins the exciting and agonising wait for your pictures! But fear not; we’ll be as efficient as possible so you can view your gallery of photographs to select from online. We’ll have your fully edited shots back to you within just 6 weeks. You will also receive a preview or a sneak peek within 4 days.
